Summer Days

So, I haven't posted a whole lot this week. We have been busy soaking up the sun without suffering from a heat stroke given the 100+ degree weather we are having here this week by chilling out at the pool with friends.

Ava is starting to really develop has a swimmer. This has been a long road given that she was born with such a fear of water coming anywhere near her face that she would panic and spasm at just the thought. She will now put her face in the water for a few moments as she kicks and flails about in her attempts to swim. Now, if I could only teach this kid how to breathe out her nose, which all past attempts to with things, like blowing her nose, has failed.

Leila on the other hand is a born fish. She has always loved water which on occasion has made me panic. Like the time she took off in a full run to jump in the pool. Only problem was, I was halfway done putting on my shorts to leave the pool and had to chase her down with them around my ankles. I caught her, literally, mid-jump just before her feet hit the water. I only wish she was turned around so I could have seen the look on her face as her attempt to give me a heart attack was thwarted at the last second. She is now a little too confident in her swimming talents but is able to swim small distances on her own. I have a feeling she and Ava will end the summer not too far apart in ability.

Violet has also thoroughly enjoyed her time in the pool. She is another little water bug. She goes nuts just mentioning things like a bath or swimming. She still has her dive reflex going on, so I am able to blow in her face and dunk her in the water without causing her to panic. She goes down through my legs and up on the other side coming up with her eyes wide open in excitement. Then she gets a HUGE grin on her face before letting out a laugh or a squeal. Such fun!

I am just waiting for the day when I don't have to actually get in the water with the kids. I HATE the sun and having a tan because the kids need me in the water with them. Oh, the things we sacrifice for our kids. LOL I just wish we had a pool in our backyard that I could swim all night in without the pesky sun burning me. One day...

So, if I am not posting as much, you know where to find me. Stop by, bring some refreshments, and take a dip with us. We love the company. Just be sure to pack lots of sunblock because the sun has apparently kicked all the other types of weather's butt this summer and is scorching everything it touches.

  1. First, Emmi put her face under water BEFORE Jill would. She actually convinced Jill to. The both learned to swim the same summer. Emmi was three and Jill was six!

Second, I "go swimming" by sitting by the pool with a book in my hand. You can find me under the umbrella, in the shade!

  2. I'd be there...if I lived in Texas! I wish I had a pool!
