Slingin' it

I am constantly on the hunt for the perfect sling. I have tried so many different kinds. I have been hooked on my Hotslings for quite some time now. They have been my must have baby item since Leila was an because I despised the stroller. It just never seemed to work for us. Either is was too large for whatever I wanted to do or she screamed her head off the second I sat her in it. She loved to be carried, so that is exactly what I did. That is when my search began.

I started with the Baby Björn but found it to be the most painful contraption for my back. You know that line from Knocked Up where Seth Rogan's character asks Katherine Heigl's character if they will ever be as happy as the people on the Baby Björn box? Yeah, I can safely say no not as long as you are wearing that stupid thing. Anyway, I think I wore it twice before retiring it to my closet until my mom's nutty neighbor mentioned wanting one to wear her tiny chihuahua in. I was more than happy to donate it to her for her dog. Not long after that, Ava began walking, and I gave up looking for solutions.

When Leila came along, I was thrilled to discover the world of slings. I did a ton of research on them but really got no where as far as knowing which kind of sling would be best for me. I finally decided to try the very approachable and non-threatening pouch sling. I came across the Hotslings website that was just gaining momentum at the time and found they had gorgeous fabrics. That had me sold and I purchased my first sling. I absolutely fell in love with it from the moment I put her in it and was able to get around town with a happy baby. That certainly made for a happy mommy.

Then one day, something tragic happened. I came home from a day out on the town and was putting away my things when I noticed that my sling had gone missing. I immediately began to panic feeling as if I had literally lost my third arm. I actually cried over the loss. Daniel was so sick of hearing me moan about after only a few days that he ordered me a new one and had it shipped overnight. Ahhhh, the world was right again.

Through my playgroup, I have been able to try out a number of different types of slings from rings slings to the more structured ones, like the Ergo. I really wanted to find a mei tai to use, but the ones I tried never seemed to fit on my narrow shoulders correctly and kept sliding off. I have been so hesitant to order one online for fear that I would have the same issue. I really needed to find something that supported the baby's weight on both of my shoulders.
Well, I finally decided to bite the bullet this morning and order a wrap. I am so excited for this now. I ordered a Wrap 'n Wear sling in black and got a super deal on it. The wrap is the only type of sling I have not had a chance to try out, but I have faith that it will work for me. I will keep you posted.

  1. dude I have two peanut slings and I love them. I love who ever thought of the sling! You can get so much done when your not having to chase your child around...just strap them to your hip

  2. I've gone through a bunch of slings too. I have a Bjorn that I didn't mind, but all the sling people said he too small for it when he was born. But I think he would've been fine. Rick used it everyday and all his buddies made fun of him and called it his third boobie. (Like Robert DeNiro in Meet the Parents). I think it is way harder to find a good sling than just to use the Bjorn.

  3. LMBO-- the third boobie! :D My hubby would never be caught dead in one. He is a big boy, though. I do think he would look hilarious.
